EDTE 503 Expanding Cultural and Historical Outlooks (ECHO)
This course is a four-week workshop taking place in Paraguay and neighboring countries.  This project will involve research and study activities leading to the development of Internet-based "web guides" focusing on Paraguay/Parana River watershed region.  ECHO will address two aspects of the region: 1) Environmental Landscapes;and 2) Historical and Cultural Landscapes.  These two topics will be explored as both independent and interrelated entities.

3 Credit Option:
Class members will keep a journal reflecting on the environmental, cultural and historical outlooks of Paraguay and, to a degree, its neighboring nations. These reflections will be showcased on the web pages participants will develop and post to the Columbia Education Center web site.
EDTE 503  International Trends in Education

Based on members' overseas experiences, each participant will work with a  team to develop an Internet-based curricula and materials package (webguide) built around environmental, historical, and cultural themes.  Webguides will include a sequence of teaching objectives, learner activities, evaluation techniques, and such mediated instructional support materials as pictures and graphics, journal articles, video tapes, artifacts, maps, and recommended reading lists. Web guides will be disseminated nationally via the CEC web site.

6 Credit Option:
Class members will complete the three credit option and, in addition, disseminate their reflections about the environmental, cultural and historical outlooks of Paraguay and, to a degree, its neighboring nation, with local and regional colleagues via in-service presentations when they return to their respective schools and communities.
