CECmisc.79 TITLE: PROJECT ME AUTHOR: Jeri Kelley, Mountain View High School; Orem, UT GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT: 8-12 SELF-ESTEEM UNIT OVERVIEW: In conjunction with a three-week Self-Esteem unit in Sociology these Project Me's are assigned at the very beginning of the unit and presented on the last two or three days of the unit. They have been extremely successful at the beginning of each quarter, not only do I get to know the students better, they also get acquainted with each other and most importantly become more comfortable with themselves. It's also helpful in promoting better classroom participation. I show examples of many of the different projects that they can choose from when giving them this assignment. Sometimes I think this is good, other times I think it stifles creativity. Use your own judgement on that one. Please choose two of the following projects that you want to excellently present to our class. The first project will be your primary project worth 150 points and your second project will be your supplementary project worth 100 points. Please choose two projects that you prefer to accomplish and then I will assign you the date that you will share them with your fellow sociologists. ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES: PROJECT ME 1. ME MOBILES: These mobiles will be able to tell stories of yourself just by looking at them! They will be hung from our classroom ceiling. You will be given the opportunity to describe each piece of your mobile to your classmates. 2. ONE-HUNDRED GOALS: Write down 100 goals that you want to accomplish in your lifetime or in a specific time period; for example, before your 40th birthday. These goals must be typed. You will need to explain just five of these goals to the class and how you plan to accomplish them. 3. SELF-PORTRAIT: Draw a picture of yourself ten years from now engaged in the activity of your choice. You must have some artistic ability to do this one. Be prepared to share your finished portrait with the class with a description of why you are so engaged. 4. 3D OR COLLAGE: This will be a representation of your life from the day you were born to the day you turn 35 years old. We will give you an opportunity to show and tell these to the rest of the class. 5. VIDEO STARRING YOURSELF: You will share your life with the class by producing a video that will tell about your life and your future. Yes, of course, we will give you approximately ten minutes to show this wonderful movie to your fellow Sociologists. No R-Rated movies please. 6. ORIGINAL SELF-ESTEEM ACTIVITY: Create a similar activity of your own that will be comparable to the requirements of this assignment. Be prepared to share this activity with the class. If you have any idea and would like to bounce it off of me, please don't hesitate to do so, I'll be glad to act.
